Santa Cruz County Office Of Education Construction Technology - Sean + Students

I began working as a carpenter in Santa Cruz back in 1989. My journey started building decks and fences. I soon advanced to building custom homes and then shifted my focus to finish carpentry and cabinetry. As my love for woodworking grew, I apprenticed under some amazing boat builders, luthiers and furniture makers.

This path lead me into starting my own business in the restoration and reproduction of fine antique furniture and historical millwork. In 2010 I began teaching Construction Technology for the Santa Cruz County Office Of Education.

I currently have taken the Lead Teacher role for the Career Technical Education Partnership Department and have created a Pre Apprenticeship program focused on expanding our construction industry pathway. In our program students learn about the many different trades in the industry. We use the MC3 curriculum that is both state and union recognized to give students a head start should they choose that pathway.

Our program offers extensive hands on training focusing on the tools and techniques used in a vast array of trades. Students will learn the “soft skills” of what makes a solid and marketable employee, no matter what industry they pursue.

Students will be introduced to construction math, job site and shop etiquette and overall safety. All students will obtain their OSHA 10 certification and well as CPR training.

Our end goal is to provide our students with the most up to date and thorough training available in Santa Cruz county. Graduates will be well prepared to go directly into a union apprenticeship or be hired by non union contractors.

Students also have an opportunity to further their education as the SCCOE and Cabrillo College are in an articulation agreement. We also offer high school credits for students to meet their HS graduation requirements.
